Paradise Found, Pt. 1
Updated: Aug 3, 2018
Fiji is stunning, everything you'd imagine and more. Just like that old Microsoft Windows screen saver from 1999. Never in my lifetime did I think we would be here, but after 19 hours of travel, we were. But how??
Thats the funny part, we entered one of those overrated "Follow, Like, and Comment" Giveaway Posts and won. We were definitely skeptical, I don't think we actually told anyone about it until we were leaving for our flight.
Fiji is an island of miles and miles of lush mountains, sugarcane fields, and crystal water- Oh and the sweetest stray pups. The air is fresh and the water, fresher.
First Stop: Bamboo Hostel - Nadi, Fiji
We stayed at Bamboo Hostel near the airport. We took a day trip to see the city, the Sleeping Giant garden, and end up at Fiji's natural Mud Pools. Probably the most touristy thing to do, but oh well.
The Sleeping Giant Garden is a secret hideaway in the mountains, it gets its name because the mountains surrounding the garden look like a giant man sleeping on his back.
The mud pools have existed for thousands of years in Fiji. When hot spring water combines with volcanic ash to form a mud bath pool. The mud is known to be therapeutic, relaxing muscles, and takes the redness out of minor sunburns- which with the Fijian Sun is a must!
We ended the night at our hostel having Kokoda, a fish dish they are known for and sleeping off our 24 hour travel in our first and ONLY Fijian thunderstorm.
Second Stop: Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay
This portion is what we won with the giveaway. It was one of those resorts with the over water bures that we have all been saving in our phones as bucket list places. Every way you looked was picture perfect (hence the obnoxious amount of photos), we were in paradise- and with the free breakfast buffet, we were in heaven.
We won four free nights in the ocean front lagoon and spent our days drinking cocktails, eating yellowfin tuna BLT's, and swimming in the infinity pool that overlooked the ocean. We tried every restaurant on the resort but you could find us at the buffet. Lived our best life at this resort, us triplets.
We did take a surfing excursion one day so Zane could surf the reef breaks, GNARLY BRAH. But the trip was neat, we drove down the coast of Fiji to the southern end, got to snorkel some reefs off the coast, visit the prettiest beach on the island and learn a great amount about the Fijian lifestyle. Fijians live a simple life, like host one excursion and be done with work for two weeks, eat what you catch, simple. I like that life, but I also love resort life.
Our last day in Fiji we decided to take a boat excursion out to a reef to snorkel, see some dolphins, and swing by the famous Cloud Break on the way back. It rained all morning and was pretty bad weather, but our guide was still down if we were! So as the dumb- I mean adventurous Americans we are, we went out.... in a little Dinghy. As we were riding into the storm, passing the island where Wilson from Castaway lives, we looked back to see Chawnee completely drenched in water from the waves capsizing over our boat. We all decided that we wanted to live to see Hawaii, so we turned around and went back to land.
